if there were jws at the Bataclan, they would have been disfellowshipped or at least publically reproved.

Outraged After Watching The May 2017 Broadcast
by pale.emperor inok, so i've just put myself through another months broadcast so i can see what bull they're feeding my still in relatives.
all was going fine... well, i say fine, i mean the usual cheesy videos, rehearsed reactions from jeffrey jackson (you remember him, the one who told half truths and lies at the royal commission) and propaganda from jw land.. the last feature brings up 9/11 and the paris 2015 attack at the bataclan.
just as im thinking "how are they gonna spin this in their direction" i hear these words:.

Would You EVER Go Back To Being A Jehovah's Witness?
by minimus ini could never understand why some people who know the truth about the "truth" ever go back.
once you understand all the hypocrisy and negatives, i would think it's almost impossible to go back!.

I think I would become physically ill if I tried, for some obscure reason, to return to the jw sect.

How much money people usually donate to WT ?
by Bardamu ini grew up in the org and never got baptised, however i was wondering recently about how much money my family and old friends are wasting in all that.
.
i remember of course never talking in amounts, that it was important to give from what you can not what you have etc but i admit i have no clue how much the average witness gives (say in % of their income).. i'm sure it varies greatly, i'd love to hear what you guys have to say..

when I was young I was the accounts servant and assigned to deal with the deed of covenant tax arrangement when it was introduced. For non UK members, this is the arrangement whereby a charity can reclame the tax paid by donations on the sum that is pledged to the charity.
I thought I donated a " reasonable" amount myself. Not too much but not too miserly.
So I was surprised to find that in a congregation of 100, my personal pledge amounted to 10% of the total.
I was also surprised at the pledges, or lack of them, from certain personalities in the congrgation.
I sould say thank you to, them I suppose. It was one step closer to opening my eyes.

If the WT is a "money making machine"...who gets the money?
by NikL ini've seen claims over the years that wt is in the real estate, book publishing business and is a for profit enterprise at it's core.. can those of you that believe this to be the case tell me who benefits from all this wealth?.
the governing body lives in relatively humble conditions no?.
i've been curious about this for a while.

no thanks says I, and quickly adds have a nice day, and walked away.
I was quite pleased with myself. For the first time I managed to not waste my time trying to convince them.
Let them work it out on their own, like I did.

Disfellowhsipped for 7 years...
by HereIgo ini remember around 2009, there was a scandal going on involving 2 families in my cong where the husband in one family was having an affair with the wife of the other family.
this resulted in pregnancy and subsequent disfellowshipping.
what was interesting to me though was a comment made by a co from the platform.

seeing that armageddon is coming VERY soon, certainly less than in 7 years,
I suppose what he was really trying to say was "youve had it buster"

6 Ways Religion Does More Bad Than Good
by jean-luc picard in"most british people think religion causes more harm than good according to a survey commissioned by the huffington post.
surprisingly, even among those who describe themselves as “very religious” 20 percent say that religion is harmful to society.
for that we can probably thank the internet, which broadcasts everything from isis beheadings, to stories about catholic hospitals denying care to miscarrying women, to lists of wild and weird religious beliefs, to articles about psychological harms from bible-believing christianity.".

6. Religions seek power.Think corporate personhood. Religions are man-made institutions, just like for-profit corporations are. And like any corporation, to survive and grow a religion must find a way to build power and wealth and compete for market share.
Sounds familiar?

I found it interesting. It fits the borg to a 'T' but also so many other religions.

New York Times article Dec 31 2015
by Gayle inhttp://www.nytimes.com/2016/01/01/nyregion/stalled-brooklyn-park-exposes-rift-with-religious-group.html?_r=0.
jehovahs witnesses have been criticized by community leaders for not fixing up parks in dumbo, brooklyn, as promised.

they will justify, to the rank and file, that it is pointless giving money back to a doomed world, and that this critisism is from the devil.................
and the rank and file will swallow it whole.
"jehovahs organisation"is always right. Difficult for us to counter their auguments to those who really need it, ie to those within the borg.

interesting hospital encounter
by stan livedeath inmy 94 year old jw dad is now in hospital--i visit him every day.. in the opposite corner of the ward were a group of visitors to an oldish chap.
my dub-dar caught words like kingdom hall and watchtower from the rather loud voiced woman i took to be the patients wife.
she also mentioned a dub by name ive known for 40+years--so i guessed they are in the local congregation to my dad.. as i was leaving--the woman said to me--"what a loving --dutiful son i am.

,amusing stan. my mum is in a care home now.
she never got visitors at home, but now she is in the home she gets visitors regularly. oh, and they make sure to tell everyone that they are jehooovahs witnesses too.
So much for not letting your right hand know what the left hands doing. They often go in to see her when they are on the work "in the area". I wonder why.
